<image:title>About Us - We care for people that care for people.</image:title>
<image:caption>Radical Joy aims to reduce the burnout of people who work in social service and community focused professions. This includes educators, social workers, therapists, nurses, activists, parents etc. We want to remind people of their inherent worth outside of servicing others and help them reduce guilt when they need rest. We also pay particular attention to supporting Black and Brown people in these industries because societal oppression creates makes it even harder to maintain their wellbeing while trying to support our communities. Because we know that mental health alone won't solve this issue, we also provide DEI (also known as EDI) education to organisations, schools, and universities to help reduce harm in their practice with clients, students, and coworkers. We have over 10 years of public service experience in the realms of education, community organizing, and mental health. We do this by providing: Subsidized 1 to 1 mental health services to those in financial need. Self-Care and Mental Health Workshops which provide immediate support to employees and students so they can better cope with the challenging nature of social service industries. Social Justice & DEI Training and Consultancy to reduce harmful practices and help organizations restructure their policies and procedures to be in alignment with wellness and DEI standards, leading to better retention rates and improved quality of service. We have served over 400 participants and more than 15 organizations, with 90% of organizations being returning clients. This work has gone global with us facilitating workshops, leading retreats, and doing school consulting in 5 countries; the United States, Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. We care for people that care for people, and believe that joy is radical, especially for those that have been historically deprived of it. — A. Rahema Mooltrey, LICSW, M.Ed. <image:title>My Mother's Daughter - I am my mother’s daughter.</image:title>
<image:caption>But it took me a while to realize how true that was. As a child, she was the strongest person I knew. She worked hard, she cared for us and cared for so many others. But as I grew older, her personal struggles became more apparent. She grew up as part of a huge family with 8 siblings, and as the oldest acted as their protector and supporter. Her parents’ employment had them moving around frequently between Boston, Ma, York, PA, and Wadesboro, NC, making stability challenging. By age 21 she had me. Right after I was born, she would take me to work with her at Mass General Hospital during her shifts, putting me in the hospital nursery while she worked.</image:caption>

<image:title>My Mother's Daughter - We Are Beautiful Not Broken</image:title>
<image:caption>But life’s struggles got the best of her and she died a premature death at the age of 46. My siblings and I struggled with guilt wondering how we could have done more to help. It took time to realize that her challenges were bigger than us. Many of her issues were steeped in society’s ideals that our worth is based on how much we produce. Looking at my mother, and her mother, and her mother something became plainly apparent to me; we deserve rest, care, support, and protective boundaries. We can’t keep pushing martyrdom. We can’t keep dying literally and figuratively to provide food and shelter for our families. We deserve to have joy-infused lives and feel no guilt while doing so. I don’t just want to be my mother’s strength, I want to be her laughter and happiness as well. I want my niece and nephews to experience an abundance of joy and self-confidence to get them through the rough patches. I want them to know that they are wonderful, magical, loved, and seen. I want this for all of us, instead of just some of us. When we are balanced, grounded, centered, and whole, we can better support those around us. Choosing our health and joy is a form of protest.</image:caption>
